Hölderlin-Preis (Hölderlin Award)

Since 1989 the university and the university town of Tübingen endow the "Friedrich Hölderlin Preis" together. The award is allocated biennially. It includes 10,000 € (formerly 20,000 DM) and cannot be shared.

The Friedrich Hölderlin Award recognized people who have contributed to the German language with an innovative poetic style, or whose work is associated with Hölderlin's opus; they can be researchers, writers, artists or reviewers.

The "Friedrich Hölderlin Award" is dedicated to young academicians to help them pursue their work. Nobody may apply in person for the award. The award can be given only once to any one person.

There is a jury of six people, who are assigned for four years by the Hölderlingesellschaft, the Faculty for New Philology and the Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach (German Archives of Literature in Marbach). The chairmanship of the jury is held alternately by a person of the city and the university.

Every two years the prize is presented alternately by a representative of the university town and by the university during a public event.
